Natural Skin Care Routine

After years of losing the battle with my skin, I have finally made peace with it.

I have always struggled with acne and I still have scars from all the times I picked at my skin - I'll admit, I'm still trying to kick that habit. I tried just about everything out there (except for over the counter meds because that scared the poop out of me). But nothing ever seemed to work. I thought that going vegan would heal my skin since that is the testimony that many people proclaim. To my dismay, I didn't see any difference in my skin. Finally, I have found a solution.

When it comes to taking care of your skin, the first and foremost step is, obviously, cleaning it.

I have been using Desert Essence's Thoroughly Clean Face Wash for about a year now. I absolutely love it. It's light, smells great, and leaves you feeling refreshed. Side note: if you have a membership with Thrive Market, you can get this vegan/cruelty free face wash for a cheaper price. Acne is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. Listen to your skin and make sure you are feeding it things that won't damage it in the long run. There are many things that may cure acne, but you want to make sure you are taking care of your body as a whole.

Secondly, m o i s t u r i z e! Many people like to use toners, I did for a while, but didn't feel like it was doing much for me. I am doing just fine without it. But of course, everyone's skin is different, so do whatever is best for you. Moisturizing is so important because it gives your skin the moisture it needs. If there is a lack of moisture, your skin will work hard to produce natural oils. I have very oily skin, so moisturizing is a huge step for me. If I forget this step in the morning, by noon I will be shiny af. NOT CUTE.

I use Islands Harvest's coconut oil facial cream. This little guy right here saved my skin. After I started using this moisturizer, my acne disappeared and I saw a decrease in redness. I still get pimples here and there. Heck, I am a college student and I also am a girl that gets period pimples. But redness is something I could never reduce. Now, I'm starting to really notice a difference! This is a tiny jar, but a little goes a long way. I usually just put a dab on my finger and that covers everything. The best thing is that Island's Harvest is all natural, vegan, and cruelty free. It's made out of almond oil, aloe vera gel, and coconut oil. Wowza!

My daily skin care routine consists of the two steps above and I'll do them at the beginning and end of the day. But once a week, I will treat myself to the best face mask I have ever tried.

I'm sure you've seen pictures of this Indian Healing Clay floating around Instagram. I heard really good reviews about it and decided to try it for myself. I'm so glad I did! It literally feels like this mask is sucking all the negative things out of your face. It leaves you feeling rejuvenated and vibrant. Five minutes out of your entire week to give yourself a deep clean? No brainer. You can also get this off of Thrive Market.

I am trying my hardest to step away from the consumerist lifestyle. I am sharing these products with you because I believe our money should be spent on things that are good for ourselves and our planet that don't bring harm to any living creatures. We are going to buy these products anyway, so we might as well be wise with where we put our money.
