Bringing Simple Back - Kaetlyn Anne

Happy Friday, beautiful people!

If your week was anything like mine (crazy, busy, stressful), then a little inspo is just what you need. My new friend Kaetlyn Anne is here to do us the favor. She speaks truth and wisdom into each one of her blogposts. Read them and your heart will change.

What inspired you to create your own brand?

I was inspired to create my own brand because I wanted to share my journey toward a more simplistic and natural lifestyle. In today’s world, busy is glorified and often times convenience compromises quality. At the beginning of 2016 as I was learning more about the slow, simple, natural life I was called to live, I wanted to share that with others and encourage them to do the same. At the time, I had been sharing my photography on Instagram for a few years, but I wanted a different space that I could also share my thoughts, ideas, and recipes, so I began my blog. I feel strongly that the space that you live is a huge factor in how you feel. I love decorating and design and also wanted to start a shop selling handmade decorations. I currently handcraft and hand paint all the signs that are sold in my shop, Tumbleweed and Twine. It embodies the simplicity and slowness that I want to share with others.

What message are you trying to put out into the world with what you create?

My main message that I try to get out there with my work is to walk from worldly ways. As Christians, we are called to do so, and many things in life have secretly sucked us into acting just like the world does. I believe our faith comes into play in every aspect of our lives such as the food we eat, the products we use on our bodies, along with what and how we buy things. I want to help people see that by living a simpler life with less “things”, we create more room for God to move in our lives. I want to help people get back to the roots of simple and slow living in order to protect our bodies and the earth that we’ve been given. I want to bring simple back.

What do you tell yourself when you’re stuck in a rut?

Being a creative is difficult at times because my job is very much so based upon my feelings and inspiration. If I’m having a day where I don’t feel inspired, I remind myself not to force it if I’m not feeling it. We all have slow seasons, and it’s okay to step away from creating for a bit. I’ve learned that when I give myself some time to get inspired again, I can come back to my work with fresh eyes and create something I’m actually proud of. Quality over quantity.

What advice to you have for girls who are starting out?

The advice I always give to those starting out is to just be you! It’s easy to get caught up in the comparison game and other people’s styles, but ultimately the best thing you can do for yourself and your brand is to find your own style and stick to it. I know I’ve gone through times where I felt like my work or style needed to be like someone else’s, and that ended up setting me back in my creativity and growth. We all have our own unique talents and interests for a reason. God wants you to be like you- not like her!

What is your definition of a ‘boss babe’?

My definition of a “boss babe” is someone who puts Christ at the center of their work and remembers that this is for Him first. In my eyes, being a “boss babe” is not so much someone who “does it all” and is constantly busy with work, but someone who accepts grace, does what she can do each day, and realizes that is enough.

Do you have anything else you’d like to say?

If you’re looking for a sign to begin—whatever has been on your heart to create—this is it.
