Your Story - Alexzandrya Vissing

"If you deny who you are, and the gifts he has given you, you deny yourself the opportunity God wants to bless you with and how he wants to bless others through you." I had one meal with Alex, & through our conversation, sparks took to flame within me. The love she has for others and for Christ is so compelling & the world needs to hear her. You are gifted, darling. Don't waste what you were given.

What inspired you to create your own brand?

I host my own radio show on Resound Radio called Your Story with Alyx. I didn’t create the show, it used to be Your Story with Mojade, and when she graduated I was asked to take over. The branding since then has been my doing but what inspired me was really my show itself. I have taken a different approach to delivery and branding than those before me and made it my own. Each week I get to interview a different person on campus and help share their testimony. People inspire me. I have seen God encourage people and work through me sharing my own story. Listening to others and seeing how uniquely God has worked in their lives is the most fascinating thing in the world to me. These are real people, real lives, real hurt, and real ways God is moving! It’s changed the way I see people. Every person I meet is an inspiration to me. Even if I don’t know their story, I know that there is no boring or uninteresting person. Even if we’ve never met before, I wonder what amazing story God has written for them.

What advice do you have for girls who are starting out?

Truly, just do it. I’m not saying be reckless. Be prepared. Equip yourself, and use the resources God has given you. Then go for it. So many of the opportunities I have to share my work, and how my reach has grown is because I told myself to stop worrying. “What if I sound silly?” I’ve prepared what I’ll say, if people think I sound silly then there’s nothing more I can do. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help and to network. “What if the answer is no?” God has laid everything before me and put this within my reach. I get so excited to help out anyone with questions or to a resource to others. If the answer does end up being “no” then you haven’t lost anything. People aren’t watching you to point out your imperfections. If they are, then they will do it no matter what you do, so pursue what Christ has called you to. God gives us passions, and he has a will for our lives, those often lineup because he gives us a heart that he can use for his work. Pour the passion God has given you, into whatever you do. Pursue him, and whatever he opportunity HE gives you.

What has been the greatest reward of all your hard work so far?

Opportunities like this. The number of people who know my name compared to before now is a blessing, not because of popularity, but the opportunity. I get to meet so many more people because they walk up and say hi and ask me about my work. Being able to meet people, hear their stories and to encourage them, that’s why I do what I do. My work is the most rewarding part of my work. Getting to encourage others and answer their questions. To equip others and make them feel welcomed and value. Seeing God work in every little part of my job, and in other’s lives, that’s why I do what I do.

What is your definition of a “boss babe”?

In my mind it’s the girl who does it all. I don’t mean the girl who does EVERYTHING, because I have tried to be that girl and it is not possible. It’s exhausting and draining and you can’t. What I mean is the girl who does everything she can to the best of her ability. We are flawed people, and we won’t always give 100%. Not everyone can be the boss, but to me a “Boss Babe” is the girl who does what she can, for others, and points all the glory back to God.

Why is it important for girls to find their own voice and share it with the world?

God calls us to take a message to the world. We are made in his image, and as his children, his message is our message. He created you completely unique to play a specific part in sharing that message. If you deny who you are, and the gifts he has given you, you deny yourself the opportunity God wants to bless you with and how he wants to bless others through you. Who are you, to look at your maker, who says you are beautiful unique and amazing, and to tell him that you are less, and he is not enough to make you worthy or able? There is nothing humble about making yourself less out of fear. By finding your voice and sharing your passion, you are the proof of God’s power and glory that he took a sinner like you and made you capable, gave you purpose, a name, and beauty.

Do you have anything else you’d like to say?

You are capable, worthy, equipped, and beautiful. Not because I say so, but not because God said so, but because He made you so. He has a purpose for you, and an amazing story for you to share.
