"If you're a lady with a vision for yourself, you're working hard to get there, and you're doing what you are passionate about... then you're a boss, babe." Rebecca uses her talents to create beautiful designs that make the world a nicer place to live. She has a heart for Jesus, the things she does, and other women.
What inspired you to create your own brand?
I've always loved small business and personal brands. There's just something so special about knowing the person behind the product or service, and I've known for a long time that I wanted to have my own business and be able to use my creative skills. Throughout high school I had sold various paintings and done a few graphic design jobs and I was obsessed. I love the excitement of starting something, as well as the risk involved in it. Northern Raven Co came out of my love for graphic design, having a shop of handmade goods and the inability to decide between the two, as well as the desire to be authentic and real with my following -to let people see my life, not just my business.

What message are you trying to put out into the world with what you create?
First and foremost, that it's okay to be counter cultural. In fact I think we're called to be counter cultural. Due to the rapid rise in social media, specifically instagram, we're so used to seeing the highlight reels of everyone's life. The busy-ness, the growth and the perfect togetherness.
With everything that I create - whether it be graphic design, artwork, natural products etc - I want people to see that slowing down is a good thing. Returning to simpler roots is a good thing. It's okay to not live a fast paced, money driven life. When we slow down, breathe, let Jesus in, and abide in truth, we will see peace. It is my hope that people catch a glimpse of that through my platform.

What do you tell yourself when you’re stuck in a rut?
The biggest thing I tell myself (and I'm still working on this - it's not always easy), is that I am not doing what I do to satisfy everyone else. Feeling stuck is normal, and I try not to pressure myself into finding the fastest way out of the "stuck-ness". I find that sometimes it's actually good to sit in that, and reflect on the why behind the feeling. Often times that reflection leads to recognizing needs like self care, addressing my priorities, rediscovering the joy of what I do after taking a break, etc. And then eventually, the stuck-ness fades away and I feel energized and grounded enough to begin creating again.

What advice do you have for girls who are starting out?
There are so many reasons you can tell yourself that it isn't the time, but if it makes you excited to get out of bed every morning... then just do it. It's hard work to start a business. Really hard work. But it's rewarding.
There's a quote... "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life." and while I understand the thought behind it, I just don't think that's true. If you do what you love, you will work hard every day, but, you'll be working hard because you love what you do. It is an amazing thing to take the risk and share your passion with the world, and if you get the opportunity to do it as your 9-5, then take it!

What has been the greatest reward of all your hard work so far?
The greatest reward would have to be the community. I've become friends with so many wonderful women from all around the world that I wouldn't have ever had the opportunity to meet otherwise.
What is your definition of a “boss babe”?
If you're a lady with a vision for yourself, you're working hard to get there, and you're doing what you are passionate about... then you're a boss, babe.

Why is it important for girls to find their own voice and share it with the world?
We all have something to say. We all have desires on our hearts and the potential to contribute something healing to a broken world. I think that now, more than ever, it's important to use your platform well. To lift one another up, to journey and do life together. There's so much hurt and garbage in this world, to share your voice for the healing of another is a gift we shouldn't waste.
