Whatever Is Lovely - Kalyn Jean

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17 // Kalyn lives out this scripture perfectly. Her words are encouraging and are the perfect reminder to get back to our roots with the beginning of this year.

What inspired you to create your own brand?

I’ve always been so inspired by those on Instagram and in the blogging world who fearlessly capture beautiful corners of even the most seemingly mundane moments. I think it’s a true art to search, see, and capture the glimmers of wonder all around you. This is something I’ve always sought to do—look for the lovely in everything and portray it in creative means—so I decided to give it a shot! The Lord has seriously revealed so much of His beauty and truth throughout this process. I am a living testament that art (whether writing, photography, drawing, painting, etc.) can be a truly healing process of breaking into places of tension, finding where the Lord is working and moving there, and then portraying that to the world. It’s my prayer that this healing process is always portrayed through my photography, art, and writing on Instagram, and that others will also want to take part in the beauty of creating.

Where do you wish to see your brand in the future?

I’m currently in seminary for Pastoral Care and Counseling, so I would really love to eventually expand this into a soul and heart healing ministry with an artistic emphasis—which can be a bit abstract to explain lol! Basically what I do on Instagram, only taking it even more into the real world through providing Christian counseling and life coaching for anyone and everyone, and also hosting artistic gatherings in that same space where people can come together and heal and encourage each other through seeking out and portraying the Lord’s beauty in both the darkest and most beautiful moments of life, along with everything in between. In the next few months, I'm planning on incorporating a bit more of my lettering and painting art on my Instagram conveying the Lord's beauty along with my normal posts. I’m just loving making friendships and connections on the heart level on Instagram through promoting and finding healing beauty on there.

What message are you trying to put out into the world with what you create?

Before I post anything, I take time to pray over what I wrote and created. It is my desire for everyone who encounters my posts to simply draw one step closer to the Lord and be inspired to seek beauty, truth, and healing in their lives, no matter where they’re at in their journey. One of my favorite parts about this process is interacting with people in the comments and messaging after posting and hearing about how the Lord is moving in their lives—it’s seriously SO encouraging! Ultimately, I am just providing a snapshot and a means from my life to connect with the Lord so others might find the same life and beauty as they scroll through Instagram. It’s all about the Lord’s movement and following His guidance, not about me.

What has been the greatest reward of all your hard work so far?

Definitely when I get a comment or a message about how the Holy Spirit has worked in someone’s life through my posts. I absolutely LOVE hearing about people being drawn near to the Lord through the art I’ve put into the world. This has also grown quite a lot of beautiful friendships on Instagram. It’s just so cool how such a creative platform can be used to encourage and uplift sisters all across the world!

What is your definition of a “boss babe”?

A boss babe is a woman who is confident in the power given to her to transform the culture around her. She both enters into the space she wants to change with gentle empathy and leads with the strength of a queen. She gives herself grace in the midst of change and stress, but always looks forward and leads others into the greater hope to come.

Why is it important for girls to find their own voice and share it with the world?

I think in the midst of so much gender tension nowadays, it’s SO important for girls to realize the beauty and power of their femininity. Femininity is both strong and gentle, loud and soft. This unique aspect of girls’ character has so much to offer the world in leadership and in servant hood. Fully engaging in this aspect of who God created you to be brings so much life and light to everyone around you, ultimately leading to change and unity.
