Janette inspires me with her originality every day. She shows up as herself & leaves as herself. From her music, to her fashion, to the way she treats people, & the way she runs her business; she truly is her own woman. She gives us affirmations that remind us to not get lost in the journey of finding our passions.
What inspired you to create your own brand?
Since I was young, music always surrounded me; in my family (everyone sings on both sides), at church (hymns, praise & worship), and even just at my fingertips (I had an mp3 player early on and my first iPod in 2004 lol). Ever since I can remember, I've been consuming as much music as I can. I even took piano lessons when I was young. I started writing in high school and college (poetry and songs). I remember I wasn't very vocal about my feelings growing up and being trapped in my own mind, I thought it best to express myself in art (a melody, a lyric, a song, etc.)
Where do you wish to see your brand in the future?
I see myself doing music full time in the future. I also see myself being a missionary. I have so many ideas for what I want to be doing long-term, music included, but also with missions, fashion, and MONAT. All these endeavors are a part of who I am. I want to help people, take care of the earth, and entertain. I'm excited about all that God has put on my heart and mind and how they will eventually connect in the future.

What message are you trying to put out into the world with what you create?
Be kind to people, be kind to the earth, and be as creative as you can be; Never let someone tell you you're not talented. Everyone entertains one person or the other :)
What do you tell yourself when you’re stuck in a rut?
I tend to pray when I'm in a rut or consult my friends. I also have these words of affirmation I made up a few months back (thank you Ashley Graham for the idea): "I am willing, I am worthy, I am wonderful. God is in control, I love you" I find a mirror and tell that to myself. It really brings my spirits up and inspires me to keep going. I challenge everyone to make their own words of affirmation.

What advice do you have for girls who are starting out?
Girls who are starting out in a business or who aspire to be an artist (or anything really) should always remember to keep God at the forefront. He's going to be the one to guide you and help you along the way. Also, always make time for family and friends. These things bring true joy, not just contentment. Being content and happy is fleeting. But sharing success and joy with the people that you care about is what makes it all worth it.
Another piece of advice, show people why your product or service or talent is great. Don't shove it down people's throat. Let them form their opinions by observing. Be consistent and you'll see people will notice.
What has been the greatest reward of all your hard work so far?
Sometimes the people you least expect show up for you. I think it's pretty awesome that you can help people you couldn't even imagine were in your reach. Does that make sense?

What is your definition of success?
I feel like that definition changes for me so often. Obviously, money is a factor in success. Having $0 in debt would definitely make me feel successful. But I think true success is just freedom. Freedom to do what you love and do it with the people you love.
Why is it important for girls to find their own voice and share it with the world?
I think everyone has talents and ideas that they should share with the world. Maybe for someone, it is their voice that helps change how the world looks at climate change, maybe for someone else it is lyrics that they wrote in their bedroom one night. Both Greta Thunberg and Lizzo are 100% that b****! You are too :)

Do you have anything else you’d like to say?
Support your friends' dreams and businesses!
